Education
CES Discovery
All registered architect Members (except those with Emeritus status) must complete 18 Learning Units (LUs) at least 8 of which are in topics that are Health, Safety and Welfare accredited. Learn more about AIA’s continuing education requirements. Or call 800-242-3837, select option 3.
New Sustainable Design LU
The AIA Board of Directors modified the AIA member continuing education requirement to include 4 hours of education in sustainable design (SD) as part of the existing 18 hour annual requirement. This sustainable design requirement is effect beginning in 2009 through 2012. For additional information about the new SD credit, visit AIA National.
Transcripts
AIA National manages the CE records for the membership. To obtain a copy of your transcript, visit here. For local transcript assistance, contact AIA San Antonio.
Self Report Form
Many activities related to your practice qualify for LUs. Log in with your AIA number here, and go to the online self-report form.
Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (TBAE)
TBAE requires licensed architects to complete eight Continuing Education Program Hours (CEPH) per renewal period. A CEPH is equivalent to an AIA LU. Like an LU, all 8 CEPH must include the study of subjects related to architecture and be pertinent to the health, safety, and welfare of the public. The TBAE CEPH credit can be counted towards the AIA requirement.
• At least one of the eight hours must be related to sustainable or energy-efficient design
• At least one of the eight hours must be related to barrier-free design.
• At least five of the eight hours must be structured activities (classroom/classroom equivalent)
• A maximum of three hours may be self-directed, independent study.
